“She wanted a freebirth...”
One of my first asks upon joining NBC was to design and help art direct a fully animated piece alongside Brandy Zandrozny’s reporting. The subject matter was heavy: a woman losing her baby after being influenced by Facebook groups to carry her child past full-term. We were on a quick deadline, so I made the call to design conceptual scenes that captured the gravity of this heartbreaking story.
We hired designer Andrew Zimbleman to kick off our style frames, and he and I split up design and direction for the rest of the piece. I also worked alongside colleagues to animate select scenes.
The piece was nominated for a 2021 News & Doc Emmy for Design & Art Direction.
